Your gift, Your Honour
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Give, and you will receive. A large quantity, pressed together, shaken down, and running over will be put into your pocket. The standards you use for others will be applied to you.”
Luke 6: 38 NKJV, GWT
Giving has become such a big deal these days and sometimes I truly wonder why? Could it be because many more are greedy, or because the economy is harsher than it used to be, or because many are more materialistic- they would rather consume on themselves than give? I truly wonder why, why is giving such a big deal?
I have come to find out that no matter what the “excuse” or reason for not giving, the root of the matter is that people, Christian people do not trust God, His Word, and His system of operation. Many believers can trust God with everything except their Finances! And truth is that you haven’t started trusting God except you have trusted him in your finances. God is all in or nothing!
Our anchor text shows us a peek into how God’s system works. Give and you will Receive, so simple yet so difficult for so many. But I believe that as you learn today, you will be a doer of God’s Word.
Part B of our anchor text says something so important-
The standards you use for others will be applied to you.
For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you
What you give is not about the other person but about you. The measure of your gift/ seed shows the level of honour you have to the receiver. You don’t give to the level of need you perceive the one you’re giving to has.
Giving is an act of honour, it has more impact on the giver than the receiver, a true person of honour understands giving and gives.
Your giving reflects the state of your heart towards a person and that is what God looks at and rewards.
The story of the widow’s mites shows this to us very clearly.
Luke 21:1-4 (TLB)
As he stood in the Temple, he was watching the rich tossing their gifts into the collection box. Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small copper coins. “Really,” he remarked, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them combined. For they have given a little of what they didn’t need, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.”
Who/ what you honour most is revealed by your gifts/ seeds.
2 things are rewarded when you give
. The seed is multiplied unto you by God and a harvest is commanded.
. The honour behind the gift is also multiplied and more honour from above is bestowed upon the giver.
Dear Lord, I thank you, for your grace to give is at work in my life. I give in honour, joyfully and bountifully always, without holding back, because I recognize that you’re my source; my prosperity comes from you. I thank you for increasing your grace and capacity in me to give and be a blessing, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
