YOUR ATTITUDE MATTERS
“Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.”Proverbs 18:12
Humility can be defined as upholding Gods perspective of you and using that as a filter in relation to everything and everyone around you. It is basically seeing yourself the way God sees you, which in turn shows how you relate with others.
One character trait that ranks very high with God is humility. It so important that when God sees a humble man, He personally ensures that all goes well with him. But a when a man chooses to be proud, God ensures personally, that nothing goes well with him. The bible clearly states that God opposes and personally resists the proud man.
The proud man is the one who rejects God’s word, thoughts and perspective for his own thoughts and perspective. The end of such a person is destruction.
James 4:6, 10, KJV says
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble . . . Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”
1 peter 5:6 says
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” KJV
“So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time” MSG
God is the one who promotes the humble. This tells us that God is keenly interested in our actions and attitudes to Him – how we respond to His Word and Spirit- and our actions and attitude to others. He’s so interested that he takes it personal. It doesn’t say God’s angels resists the proud and exalts the humble, no! it’s God himself that fights the proud and makes all work in favour for the humble to be promoted.
Philippians 2:3-4 paints a picture of the humble.
“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” AMP
“Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Don’t just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing.”
Your attitude matters a lot to God, today make sure you check your attitude towards God and man.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for teaching me your Word, and showing me the essence of humility, a glorious quality that attracts divine favour and promotion. I walk in love and submissiveness to the Word of God today and always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
