You were created to be affected by words
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” Ephesians 4:29
Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. Proverbs 4:23
I think a lot of people under estimate the power of words, how a person’s life can be built or destroyed with nothing else but words.
At different times I’ve met different people totally unconnected who have made a mess of their lives simply because of the wrong words they allowed into their hearts.
We were created to be affected by words. It would be ignorant of a person to believe that what they hear will not affect them, good or bad. What you experience in your life is directly tied to the words you hear consistently. Are you always sad or depressed? Check what has your ears. Do you feel hopeless or you find yourself constantly angry or edgy? Check what you’re listening to. I dare say that your life is a sum total of words that you allow in your space and into your heart.
Our text from Proverbs 4:23 says keep vigilant watch over your heart, that’s where life starts from.
The number one way anything gets into your heart is through spoken words. I need you to understand that what you’re hearing and reading affects you. As little as small gist about someone, talking fear, doubt or unbelief, affects you!
Words are so important to the point that it’s even what God left for us. Words are strong and like seeds sowed in our hearts. They will eventually grow. As a believer, it’s on you to protect yourself from bad conversations and opinions.
Resist the urge to gossip or hear someone else’s ‘gist’. So subtly, words begin to change perceptions and can innocently uproot you from your God-given place and assignment.
So today make a conscious decision to guard your heart. Allow only the right stuffs to come into your space. Cut off every negative and unnecessary talk from coming to you. Remember it’s much easier not to hear somethings than to un-hear them.
Thank you Dear Heavenly Father for your words so precious today. I declare that my heart is guarded and i speak only the right kind of words today and always. I only speak words that are edifying, words that uplift and words that are gracious to the ears of my hearers. No profane or useless thoughts are permitted in and around me today, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
