WHY DID HE LOVE US?
“But God-so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us,” Ephesians 2:4 AMPC
You know several times when we are loved beyond what is expected, we ask “why do you love me so?”. This simply reveals the state of the hearts of many- they feel they shouldn’t have been loved that much and if they are, there has to be a reason. There’s got to be a catch! So they think.
Usually they are thinking of a merit-demerit system to justify or disapprove of the love they have experienced.
This is what many folks are used to, hence the Apostle John exclaimed in his writings “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” (I John 3:1)
He literally was saying, come see what I’ve found. He was calling on everyone to come behold the wonder of this never-seen-before kind of love. He uses the Greek word ‘potapen’ which is translated ‘what manner of’ in the King James Bible but literally means ‘from what country, race or tribe’. In essence, this love is foreign to humans. You know why? There is no justifiable reason for the extravagance of this love- None would ever merit it!
This love which is called ‘agape’ in the Greek is a love that loves to satisfy itself. It’s not based on the merits or demerits of the receiver. The actions of the receiver cannot diminish or reduce the intensity of this love.
Paul explained in our opening scripture, that the reason God loved us is to satisfy His need and nature to Love!
We are ever loved by God. Our sins does not reduce that love. Stop the guilt. Stop condemning yourself.
Contemplate His love today and your sins will be a thing of the past.
Dear Heavenly Father, i thank you for your love which is self satisfying. I thank you for loving me so much.
I am more conscious than ever before of your love and how lavishly you have poured it out making it freely available to all who come to you.
Thank you Father, for i walk in your love and express your love to my world now and always, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
