WHO IS A WISE MAN?
“Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding.
Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.
Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”
Proverbs 4:7 NHEB, NLT, NKJV
I find that one of the major differences in the lives of two well-meaning good Christians is their wisdom level. Many Christians can be sweet, loving, prayerful, church going but not have good success in their lives because they lack wisdom!. When you look at people like this, you find a trail of bad decisions and senseless life calls behind them. Sometimes it’s bad judgment in people they let into their lives, or bad business decisions, or generally being unwise in this world. The bible calls people like this “simple”. They are not bad people, they have good intentions, they love the Lord but they are just simple in their minds.
Proverbs 14:15 (AMP) “The naive (SIMPLE MAN) or inexperienced person [is easily misled and] believes every word he hears, But the prudent man [is discreet and astute and] considers well where he is going.”
Proverbs 22:3 “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.”
The simple man is the person who will believe anything. He is not discerning, he will not do the hard work of determining right from wrong however he is a good man.
The scriptures especially the book of proverbs, are full of examples of such people and one thing that is common to all the examples is that it never ends well for the simple man.
That’s why our anchor text today tells us how important wisdom is, it says wisdom is supreme, it’s the principal thing. If you want to live a full life as a believer here on earth you must learn to function by wisdom; the wisdom of God.
Proverbs 1:4 tells us that wisdom gives subtlety (good judgment, astute common sense, shrewdness, smartness, cleverness, prudence) to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
Bless God that now in Christ Jesus we have the wisdom from above..
1 Corinthians 1:30 “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God…”
We tap in to this wisdom from above by the following ways;
- Acknowledge that you have the wisdom of God now in Christ
- Let the word of God be your guide in your daily affairs of life
- Ask God directly in prayers to give you wisdom especially when you’re faced with difficult situations
- Seek guidance from people (men and women of wisdom- godly wisdom) that are around you.
I declare that I speak wisdom, I walk in wisdom, and I manifest wisdom, because Christ has been made unto me wisdom. I go after wisdom daily as it helps me make wise choices in life. I deal wisely in all my affairs. I’m guided and propelled by wisdom to think, talk and act right always, in sync with God’s perfect will for my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
