THE TRUE MARK OF A BELIEVER
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35
Power isn’t the identity of the Christian. It is a sign that follows him. But power can be faked. There are pagan religions and occult groups who wield great power- albeit in the negative. At Redemption we are made holy and righteous by the work of Jesus on the cross but that isn’t your identity.
In all scripture, only one thing is said to be the identifying mark, the nature of the believer. And interestingly it’s Jesus that tells us what it is. Love!
This is very much like God our Father.
He’s a faith God that’s pleased and functions by faith.
He’s all powerful and all knowing but that’s not His nature. That’s what He does and He’s capable of. All through scriptures God is identifying with only one thing. The Apostle John tells us.
“He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.”
1 John 4:8
God does not just have love. He is Love. The believer is the love offspring of a love God. This is the nature of the believer.
Thus Spiritual growth really is a growth in your Love walk.
Men will identify us as His disciples not because of our demonstrations of power and piety but by our Love walk.
Power can be faked. Piety can be faked but only the new creation has the capacity to love.
This love isn’t the human feelings based kind of love.
It’s the unconditional, sacrificial love of Christ which we have received and now extend to the world around us.
This love isn’t based on how the other person behaves or responds to it. It’s totally unconditional. We love not because they are lovable but because we’ve chosen to love. It goes beyond feelings. It’s a decision.
In the real sense of it, this decision is a decision to honor God.
In the Greek it’s called ‘Agape’. Agape is sacrificial. It lays down its rights for the greater good. Agape will choose peace over being right.
If most homes were truly run by this Agape love, oh what bliss they would enjoy.
In the kingdom, love is the source of power. Love is the basis for piety. Love is the impetus for faith. Love is everything to the believer.
No believer can ever fulfill his God given destiny without developing his love walk.
It’s time to make a quality decision to function by Love.
I am the love offspring of a love God, I effortlessly love others as Christ as loved me, My life is ruled by God’s love in my heart, I honor God with my love walk in my everyday living, I am an extension of the love God to my world.
