THE TOUCH OF FAITH
“And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” Luke 8:45-46
There’s something as called the touch of faith. It’s a touch that draws virtue and gets its desired results.
The story of the woman with the issue of blood is possibly one of the most popular stories in the scriptures but still remains one of the greatest examples of the power of faith.
Two things that I always like to point out is that Jesus was totally unaware that the woman was in the crowd and secondly that even if He did, He had no plans to heal her.
Jesus clearly showed that He didn’t know she was there. He kept asking that someone touched Him. Also He made it clear that it was her faith that healed her.
“And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” (Luke 8:48)
But her faith against all odds got her her desired miracle.
As the story goes, there was a huge crowd thronging in Jesus who was trying to make His way to Jarius’ house. Several were pressing and pushing to catch a glimpse of the miracle worker. He must have been ‘touched’ several times on that trip but one touch made Him stop.
There’s something about Faith that pleases God and will make Him suspend everything just to give us the object that our faith is reaching out for.
The woman knew she wasn’t meant to be in that crowd. She was considered unclean by Jewish laws and if she had been spotted by the Jewish high priest she would have been stoned to death. She however knew that this High Priest only gave life!
She had spent all she had on doctors and physicians but she was not bettered. In fact she grew worse.
I’m wondering how bleak and dark life must have looked for her. No hope! No respite! But something happened.
The Bible says in Mark 5:24, “When she had heard of Jesus…”
Faith begins with hearing. You cannot demonstrate greater faith than what you have heard.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Faith comes by hearing. Her change began when her ‘hearing’ changed.
She then pressed to touch Jesus by Faith. Without His conscious decision to heal her or His knowledge of her presence, her faith pulled in virtue in Jesus and healed her. To which Jesus responded, “Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” (Luke 8:48)
Your faith can make you whole!
Dear Father, I thank you for imparting faith to me through the word of God. As l study your Word, my faith increases, and as I put it to Work, it prevails and grows stronger. I’m living the supernatural life of victory, dominion and excellence in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
