THE SUPPLY OF THE SPIRIT
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ Philippians 1:19
God has a work on the earth. There is something He is sold out to and bent on accomplishing.
What is that work?
It is to restore the earth to its original glory before the fall of man. Maybe, but one common denominator in the acts of God through out history is that He seeks to see all men saved.
God’s “true north” is the salvation of mankind. This is the work of GOD and If there is anything God is totally devoted to, this is it.
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:4
However He chooses to accomplish this, a couple of things are certain :
- Human will and human strength cannot accomplish this work
- God’s methods are men. None the less;
- God will accomplish His purposes by the Spirit.
- There is an endless supply of the Spirit.
This clearly shows us that God is willing to use men who do not depend on the flesh but are surrendered to His will and purposes and He does this by empowering such men through the agency of the Holy Spirit.
The Apostle Paul in our opening text reveals a very important truth. Any and every work of salvation is a product of the supply of the Spirit. Salvation here refers to a complete work which is a wide spectrum. So, in salvation, we have healing, restoration, redemption, deliverance, prosperity etc. and all these are by the supply of the Spirit. In other words, whatever turns to our salvation is by the supply or the aids and assistance of the Spirit of Christ; and prayer is the appointed means of fetching in that supply.
If only we gave ourselves to the supply of the spirit by yielding our hearts in surrender and unleashing the floods of the Spirit into our world through prayer, our nations will be a fulfilment of Isaiah’s words –
Until her righteousness blazes down like the sun and her salvation flames up like a torch.
Isaiah 62:1b (MSG)
Dear Father, thank you for the Holy Spirit who empowers me in surrender to do your will and purposes. I bask in the exceeding and overflowing supply of the Spirit. Nations are overcome with the brightness of your righteousness as I am given to prayers and intercessions. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen
