THE SCHOOL OF SCHOOLS
Pastor Ayo Ajani
“I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.” Psalm 119:99
Education is the foundation of society. Everyone knows and understands that education is one of the most vital elements of humanity. For ages our cultures, societies and lives have been built on the principle of education. Hence, a child is born and even at the early stages before the child can speak or make any decisions the parents begin to consider options of schools to enroll their child, this proves how education is important to our progress as a people.
However, no matter how great the track of a person’s formal education is i.e. from the best private primary school to the top ivy league colleges, it will never really be enough to understand life and to navigate its complexities. For a long time in my life, I knew fully well that beyond the formal education society offered me, there was more. In other words there is a higher plane of knowledge and wisdom that exists beyond the textbooks and the lectures I received at school, somewhere within me I knew there was a school of schools.
In Psalm 119, David makes an expose on the word of God and somewhere in the ninety-ninth verse he reflects on his experience in the word. David makes a bold statement, “I have more understanding than my teachers!” How affirmative is that? The word “understanding” here has a deeper meaning than just the mere comprehension of a subject matter, but rather it means “to have insights into a subject matter to the extent that you prosper in it”.
For a minute let’s pause and consider this. A scenario that paints a perfect picture is when Jesus was taken to the temple as a boy. Jesus was barely a teenager when he was taken to the temple, and according to Luke’s account he was found in a discourse with doctors of the law.
“And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.”
In other words, Jesus kept those grey bearded men with their religious togas on the same spot for three full days, asking and answering questions in respect to their expertise. What a kid right? Now that’s the kind of understanding David speaks about and he shows us how this level of understanding comes in the next sentence of that verse, “for your testimonies are my meditation”.
Let’s consider another person who had this level of understanding in the scripture and how he received it. Joshua had just succeeded “a titan of a man” called Moses. He was now a leader over millions of very hard hearted and stubborn people. Such large shoes to fill right? I can imagine Joshua must have begged God to give this to somebody else, but see what secret God gave Joshua,
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
We can see the word “meditate” play out here again. Hence if Joshua was going to be successful as Moses his predecessor or even better than, he had just one thing to do. He had to stay with the word, study it, reflect on it and observe to do according to it.
The word of God is a school of its own class and the testimony of many who have enrolled therein has been one of success. With the word there is only one destination, and that is good success.
So, could it be that the reason we haven’t seen success in certain areas of our lives is because we’ve been hinged on other things we’ve learned from our experiences or assumption, instead of allowing ourselves to be schooled in the word?.
Today we must decide to get that education in the word. We must make that decision to search the scriptures, meditate and receive the word into our hearts and we would prosper and see good success.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for your Word, which is able to make me wise in all my dealings in life. Your Word imparts wisdom to me to deal excellently in all affairs of life. I thank you for through the agency of the word, as i study and meditate on the scriptures, i become prosperous and i have good success. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
