The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22
This is one of my favourite scriptures in the bible and I’m pretty sure to you, it’s a scripture you like as well. It’s the “go to” scripture for many believers trusting God for increase.
One day while meditating on this scripture, my eyes fell on the word maketh and for the first time it dawned on me that God is more interested in making us than just giving us. This particular text talks about the blessing of God making one rich and even though it speaks directly to your finances, it can also be used for other areas of our lives.
Jesus said to Peter and Andrew in Matthew 4:19
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men…
You see God is more interested in making you than giving you. He is actually interested in seeing you become a better Christian. He wants to know that you’re not the same person you were years ago before you got saved.
He likes to know that the bad habits picked over the years have been dropped, the bouts or anger and depression are all gone. You don’t depend more on others than on Him as you used to and so on. God is interested in making you a better Christian, a better spouse, friend, employee, employer etc. with a better attitude and character.
The truth is we can’t claim to be saviours and deliverers if we are the very ones destroying the people and systems we have been called to save.
For example, a known Christian gets into a political office and he starts siphoning all the funds just like everyone else, then comes to church and starts declaring the blessings of God! No, no, no! God is against this! That Christian cannot effectively lead another person within his sphere of influence to Christ because of his bad character.
Same goes for an abusive spouse, a foul mouthed believer, or a believer who still drinks, smokes, dresses provocatively or engages in premarital sex and adultery. God is not okay with this at all.
A believer who is out every night from one club to another then shows up in Sunday saying he/she is blessed no one should judge me! We have been called to live by the standard of the WORD and not of the World. Holiness within and without is still a must for every believer.
Colossians 3: 5-10 NIV says
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
To be all that God has called us to be, we must consciously let the word of God MAKE us into the same image as the Son – Christ Jesus and not just claim His blessings day in day out.
Today choose to allow the word of God make you a better you.
I declare that the Word of God dwells in me richly. I grow by the skillful use of the Word of God to discern that which is good and evil. I declare that i am made and built up by the Word of God, transforming my life and attitudes to conform to what God has said about me. Thank You Dear Holy Spirit, for with the Word of God i win and rule, walking daily in triumphant sessions. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
