THE LAW OF INCREASE
“There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth, and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.”Proverbs 11:24
Zion is a kingdom and this kingdom is built on unshakable, reliable principles.
One of the laws of this kingdom is the Law of Increase.
If any one knew what law governs increase in the earth, Solomon very well understood it. Simply stated, only what you give away truly increases. The farmer has to ‘loose’ his seed to get a harvest from it. What he keeps in the barn as his own, doesn’t increase in his life.
To increase, there must be some scattering. Our world today is obsessed with getting, amassing, keeping and hoarding, but that’s the very opposite of how Gods kingdom works.
The world thinks that the more they can amass and keep, the wealthier they get. In fact, the indices for determining the wealthiest is by how much possessions they have.
Jesus however reveals how God sees these things. He said in Luke 12:15, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
You see there are only two reasons why people amass and hoard: Fear and Selfishness.
Fear of the future, fear of not having enough and selfishness which manifests as greed.
This is not the way of the kingdom at all. Our kingdom is built on Love and the character of love is to give not keep.
Solomon was a wealthy man. I believe he can teach you and I, a thing or two about wealth. In the verse above he states what I call the Law of Increase.
Note that the only way to increase is by scattering which basically means to sow your seed generously without withholding. The word scatter gives the idea of just recklessly throwing around seed on every available field. But the Hebrew indicates otherwise. It refers to the attitude with which the seed is sown. Instead of picking out seed carefully from a seed bag, the sower flings seed out of a bucket full of seed on his field. That is scattering.
Solomon adds an important thought. He says he that holds back more than he should tends to penury. As such, he understood the need to take care of our personal needs, save and invest. These are to be held back but if more than is necessary is held back, for example, to consume on your lusts, he says the reverse law of decrease that leads to penury is activated.
Let me state clearly, of any income God gives you, you must differentiate between that to be sown and that to be kept.
Let me paraphrase our text in The AAT( Ayo Ajani Translation);
“The way to increase is by scattering seed. The sower must know what’s to be kept and what’s to be scattered. If he keeps as little as pint of what’s to be scattered, it activates the reverse law of poverty and decrease”
The way to increase is to scatter. How well are you doing at this?
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the Word of God that has come to me today. Today and always, I activate the law of increase in my life by putting to practise the act of scattering my seed as I sow it on good ground. I do not hold back what is more than necessary for me, as I give cheerfully and promptly, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
