THE GOSPEL IS COMMITTED TO YOUR TRUST
“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.” 1 Timothy 1:11
I’m reminded of how salvation came to the Gentile world through the ministry of the Apostle Peter as recorded in Acts 10. An angel appeared to Cornelius in a vision at the Ninth hour which corresponds to 3 pm in today’s time schedule and asked him to send for Simon Peter who was at Joppa at the time.
The next day at around noon, Peter fell into a trance on the rooftop while in prayer. He saw a dramatic vision after which the Lord instructed him to follow those who had come to get him. Because of Peters Jewish and legalistic background, God had to convince him through a vision to go with the messengers from Cornelius else he wouldn’t. The Jews were not meant to have any interactions with the Gentiles.
One thing that always stands out to me is that the Angel didn’t preach to Cornelius, rather he asked that they send for Peter. Think of this as well, why the stress of trying to convince Peter to go? Couldn’t the Angel just do the job?
Man is very important in God’s agenda. Angels cannot preach the gospel. The sacred trust of preaching the Gospel and bringing joy to the Fathers heart is squarely on our shoulder. Come to think of it, this was how the Gentile world came to receive the Gospel and now today the message of the Gospel has spread to regions far beyond Israel. You and I today have received the message because of this one opening. Think of the far reaching impact of this one assignment that Peter had. I’m sure that in his wildest imagination, he could never have believed that his actions mattered that much.
You see dear friends, it’s the same with us today! Like Paul, we can say that the glorious Gospel of the blessed God has been committed to our trust. This is a sacred privilege. And you know, it’s not like a general commitment. No! It’s committed to you as an individual. Entire families, communities and possibly nations are dependent on your response to the Gospel.
We have been given both the awesome privilege and huge responsibility to bring our world to the saving knowledge of Jesus. Without us, God can’t. Without us, God won’t.
So much depends on you.
Dear Lord, thank you for the privilege of being your partner in soul-winning. You counted me faithful and committed the Gospel to my trust. There’ll be no limit to how far I’m willing to go and do for the gospel, for it’s your power to make sinners righteous. I preach the gospel boldly everywhere and to everyone, and many are converted, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
