“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.”
The only currency for exchange in the realm of the Spirit is hunger.
No man experiences more in God more than His level of hunger for the things of God.
Hunger here refers to a strong desire to see the manifestations of God’s word and Spirit in your life!
Our text taken from Isaiah 55, tells us clearly that there is a hunger that the things of this world cannot satisfy.
It says incline your ear and come to Me, Hear, and your soul shall live! This talks about a heart that’s panting and longing after God.
David understood this and he declared in Psalm 42:1,2;
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
David was ever longing for God, as a shepherd boy, as a fugitive on the run and even as a King of the greatest nation on earth in his time.
His pursuit after God was so strong that God had to cut a special covenant with him- The sure mercies of David. This same covenant still exists for everyone who will seek for God.
Luke 1:53 says
“He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.”
God always fills the hungry with good things! There’s always something tangible at the other side of your pursuit for God.
I believe so strongly that the days are coming just like we read in our anchor text where all will fail- money, power, fame, connections- and what would really count is what we know of the Lord for ourselves, what we have found in our pursuit of God.
Be passionate about Jesus, search for Him with your whole heart.
Study the Word zealously, pray fervently, Fast often, Give with Joy, serve with passion.
I stay thirsty for the things of the spirit always. As I feed my hunger for the things of the spirit by studying the word of God, I am filled with light and revelation. I pursue after God passionately in study of the word, in prayer and in fasting. As I continually increase my hunger in the things of God, I experience a bursting forth, I experience increase and a birthing of spiritual verities. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
