SOJOURN IN THE LAND OF PROMISE
“By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:” Hebrews 11:9
Abraham’s story is such an inspiring one. From the moment he answered Gods call till his death, it was purely a journey of faith. Clearly, Bible faith pays great dividends.
God instructed him to leave his Father’s land and go into a country he had no idea of. He was just to follow ‘blindly’. But you know true faith has sight. While to the natural it seems blind but to the man of faith he sees what God is doing.
Faith isn’t a blind leap in the dark. It is leaping on the light of the Word of the God. Gods word is light and when quickened to us grants illumination to the inner man even when the senses remain in the dark.
After getting into the physical land of Canaan, God told Abraham to do something very remarkable. In Genesis 13:14-17, he said
“And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.”
God gave him the instruction to lift his eyes and behold the land. Everything he saw was going to be his! Obviously he couldn’t have seen the whole world from that point yet scriptures tells us that God willed the world to Abraham. He must have looked with the eyes of faith not his physical eyes.
Then God instructed him to walk through the land. That was practically impossible. Even if this meant just the land of Canaan, how was he to walk the entire length and breadth? This meant more than a physical walking just as the seeing meant more than just a physical looking.
The writer of the book of Hebrews used the word ‘sojourned’ to describe the same thing. The word meant to dwell as a tourist or stranger.
Think of the last time you went on vacation at a tourist destination. You were in wonder of everything. You lived consciously aware of your environment. You took everything in carefully.
God says to sojourn in the land He’s shown you. Your dreams must become more real to you than your predicament.
Walk the length and the breadth of that dream of a media house, that fashion industry, that real estate facility…
Faith sees and sojourns…
Halleluyah!!, I declare that my Faith is living and active. I declare that my Faith is Alive and has sight. I give sight to those dreams that God has given me. I begin to live in the reality of those dreams through Faith. I sojourn into the land that God has shown me and given me, even from this day onward, because i have eyes that see, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
