SIEZE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO WITNESS ABOUT JESUS
“He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. And he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.“John 4:3-6
I like to read the Gospels as they tell me of the man Jesus that walked the face of this earth. I’m always intrigued by how he reasoned, how he acted, his manner of life and conversations, particularly his private conversations.
Here Jesus has cause to pass through Samaria onwards his final destination. Weariness made him pause his journey while his disciples went to get food. What I’m trying to show you is that Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman was nothing spiritual. God didn’t instruct him to go to Samaria. The Bible says in John 4:3-4 (AMPC), “He left Judea and returned to Galilee. It was necessary for Him to go through Samaria.”
Now if you remember that literally the whole Samaria got saved thereafter then you’d understand the gravity of what I’m trying to get across.
One would naturally assume that if the destiny of an entire city was at stake then probably God should have instructed Jesus specially to go Samaria. But alas no!
It was basically the fact that the route he had to take passed through Samaria and his hunger that made him coincidentally meet the woman.
Some of our greatest opportunities to change the lives of people and by extension the world will come to us casually.
They won’t come with a special announcement from heaven.
In Ephesians 5:16, Paul says “making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (NIV)
Each day comes with unique opportunities to preach the Gospel, bringing hope and respite to the hearts of many around us.
Expectation precedes recognition. You are more likely to take cognizance of something you are expecting otherwise it may pass you by.
This is particularly true with regards to opportunities to preach the Gospel. Several opportunities will be presented us but we will only recognize what we are looking out for.
For example, your colleague at work begins to whine about her wayward children or you hear of a perennial bodily ailment that has afflicted your neighbor. These are opportunities to show love and build a bridge to minister to them.
Jesus was a Master Soul Winner. Do you observe how He took advantage of a natural conversation to minister to the woman. You can use anything to witness. Football, the latest show, automobiles, anything!
Always start where people are and take them to the heart of the Father
Dear Father, I thank You for the several opportunities you avail me to preach the gospel to those in my world. I thank You for filling my mouth with the right words to say whenever I minister and preach to anyone I come in contact with. Today and always, I am expectant and I take advantage of every opportunity to witness about Jesus to a dying world. Thank You, Dear Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
