SERVICE: THE PATHWAY TO GREATNESS
“And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren; And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge. Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 17:17-19
The anointing does not make great. Power does not make great. Gifts do not make great.
I know that these are pretty bold statements there! But they are nonetheless absolutely true.
Service is the pathway to greatness in the kingdom. The irony of our kingdom is that the more you grapple for greatness the less of it you have. However the more you give yourself to service, the more God Himself begins to promote you.
All through the Bible are clear examples of the power and reward of true service.
God honors and rewards true service.
Consider David for a moment. By the election of grace, he was singled out from amongst his brothers and the whole nation of Israel as the king to succeed Saul.
Now if you are accustomed to the traditions of that day, you know that it was no mean thing that the Prophet Samuel will come all the way to Jesse’ house to anoint the new king.
Think of how different David should have thought of himself or conducted himself. Many today will say that certain things are now beneath them considering their new status.
Let me say here, we NEVER outgrow service. Never!
Right after his anointing, David returned to feeding the sheep! What a heart!
At about this time, the Philistines led by Goliath had come against Israel led by King Saul and for several days he kept harassing and intimidating the armies of Israel.
David was too young to be enlisted in the army but his three eldest brothers were. It was such a badge of honor to be part of the army in those days.
Well, David’s father instructed David to go check on his siblings and take them some groceries. It was while he went on this errand that he saw Goliath and took up the challenge.
Remember, It was his defeat of Goliath that triggered the series of events that led to his final coronation.
Here’s my question, what if David thought he had outgrown service because he was now anointed? He simply would have missed the opportunity to kill Goliath and May never have become king.
Service is the pathway to fulfilling and manifesting the grace and prophecies on your life.
Don’t despise Service!
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for inspiring me today to be service conscious. I declare that I am given to service now and always. Nothing is too big for me to do in God’s house and concerning all that God has called me to do. Thank you dear HolySpirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
