SERVE WITH REVERENCE
“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” Revelation 3:11
One of the most sobering thoughts in our walk with and work for the Lord is that anyone is replaceable.
No man is indispensable in the plans and purposes of God here on earth.
In fact, someone once said that ‘Gods reserve bench is full of better substitutes’. Unlike in the natural where the coaches start off with the best players, God starts with the not-so wise, not-so skilled, not-so glorious to give them a chance. On the bench are the more skilled, the wiser and the more anointed.
We must treat every opportunity to be involved with the work of God with all reverence and honor.
Remember the Prophet Elijah. He assumed that he was Gods best and only option thinking that without him not much could be done. Isn’t amazing to note that truly it seemed as though everything God was doing with Israel, He channeled through the Prophet Elijah. It was easy for him to think of himself as indispensable.
“And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria: And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay. Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”1 Kings 19:14-18
He became entitled in his thinking and immediately God replaced him with a three other men! Then God announced that He had a reserve of seven thousand men waiting in the line to be used!
Elijah said ‘I am the only one’, God said ‘you lie. I have seven thousand others’!
You see, we have a responsibility to stay humble and grateful to the Lord for whatever He does through us.
Fight to hold your place for another waits at the door.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the opportunity to serve in Your house. Thank You for the opportunity to be used by You to bring Your plans and purposes to pass on this earth, to my world. I serve with humility and gladness of heart. I take away pride from my heart and serve with all diligence; As one that is faithful, and as one that would give record of his work in the house of the Lord. Thank you Dear Holy Spirit, for in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.
