SELF HELP VS WORD HELP
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119: 9-11
Have you ever asked yourself – when would I stop this bad habit? I never really want to do it but I’m just so used to it and I can’t seem help myself! This may not be you, it could be a fellow you know, a friend, sibling, colleague or whoever. But I’m pretty sure every single person has that one thing or more for some that we are dealing with.
Hebrew 12:1 says
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…
The writer of this book was talking to Christians not unbelievers, so it’s very possible for a believer to have areas in his/ her life he’s wants to see change. It could be tendencies of lust, lying, stealing or less visible issues like pride, jealousy, envy. God already made provision for us in His word on how to deal with issues like this and it’s not by more struggles or guilt tripping yourself over every slips.
Our text today Psalms 119:9-11 AMP, tells us clearly how to deal with such;
How shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed and keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to it].
With my whole heart have I sought You, inquiring for and of You and yearning for You; Oh, let me not wander or step aside [either in ignorance or willfully] from Your commandments.
Your word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
You see, the way to live a life free of struggles and the sins that easily beset is to stay (dwell, abide) in the word of God. You can’t save yourself by your own efforts.
Isaiah 30: 15 MSG says,
God, the Master, The Holy One of Israel, has this solemn counsel: “Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves.
Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me— The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do.
Let the word of God dwell in you richly, make it your focus. Don’t let the issues dwell in you richly, No!. What you focus on, gets magnified in your life. Put the word of God in your heart’ Let your whole heart seek and yearn for His word, because it’s in it you find your total freedom.
I declare that the Word of God is my focus and delight, and by the Word of God, I rule and reign in this life. I declare that I live a life free of sin and struggles. My Spirit, body, and soul yields to the living Word of God which changes and corrects me daily. As I set my mind on the Word, I receive strength to stay on the path of ever-increasing glory, in Jesus’Mighty Name, Amen.
