RUN YOUR RACE
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1
The writer of Hebrews which many argue was Paul was certainly a skilled one.
He devoted the previous chapter extolling the exploits of faith by the patriarchs of old listing them one after the other. What he began to say here in Chapter 12 was simply a continuum of the same thoughts.
He turns his gaze away from all these men to you and I. He describes them as a great cloud of witnesses. Noah, Moses, Abraham, David, Jeremiah and the so many others haven finished their own race have now taken their place on the grandstands of heaven as witnesses and are onlooking us as we run our own race.
They watch to see as we run our race. You know why? These men have been waiting for you and I. They heard the Lord talk about a special generation coming. They even prophesied about it. With excitement they are watching to see as we align with the Word of God they preached and prophesied thousands of years ago.
I want you to know that you are not just another number in the pack. No a million times. No! All of heaven is looking on as you conduct your life hoping that you’d take giant strides aligned with the Word of God and the prophecies over your life. You are that important.
There’s a race that God has set before you. It’s not your husbands race nor is it your colleagues race. It’s personal. It’s yours. Your own race.
You know, even in the natural, athletes are expected to stay in their lane. If you cross over, you’re disqualified. But that’s what many people do in the spiritual.
Very few of Gods children ever find what God wants them to do and stay in their lane. Rather they are busy comparing their lives with everyone else getting envious and copying what seems to work.
This race isn’t a natural, secular race. Heaven doesn’t record it when you buy a car or build a house. Unbelievers do same. What matters to heaven is when you make progress in the definite, unique plan God has for you.
God needs you as you not as a clone or a copy. Take the time today to find your place and what race He’s set before you.
Spend time waiting on the Lord in prayer, fastings and meditation. As you minister to Him, clarity will come.
I run the race that has been set before me by my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that the race that has been given unto me is a personal one and i run as one that has a prize set before him. I run towards the goal, to win and to gain the prize of the higher calling in Christ Jesus, Amen.
