PRAYING WITH CONFIDENCE
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
Having pastored for several years now, I have come across a lot of believers who seem to always have issues with getting their prayers answered. While i know that there are seWveral factors that may contribute to that, I believe that the Apostle John in this text shows us a sure-fire way to get our prayers answered.
He outlined three key steps
we ask according to his will which is to ask with confidence
God hears us
If He hears us then we will receive answers
Note that the first is to ask according to Gods will. Religious minds immediately conclude that he meant to ask only what God wants for us.
While that’s true but that’s not what he was referring to here.
He said if we ask in confidence God gives us a hearing. This is like the Judge giving you a date for a hearing. Even if the Judge is your dad, you have to go through the laid down protocol to get a hearing.
Same thing applies here. There’s a protocol to get a hearing. I believe the problem for the most part is that many haven’t even secured a hearing with God.
The only way to do so is to ask in ‘Confidence’ which is a unique word in the Greek. It’s the word ‘parrhesia’ which means frank, blunt, outspoken, unfettered speech.
Too many Christians think they are praying but they aren’t. They do more of begging actually. But God doesn’t want that.
He wants you to ask and demand with no restrictions, fear, limitations or caution. Your requests can never bankrupt Him.
He wants you to ask knowing that it’s yours for the taking!
The scriptures declare in Romans 8:32, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
Don’t forget Jesus said “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
He has given ALL things freely. He has given us the Kingdom.
Father in the Name of Jesus I come before you today and I take full delivery of all that’s mine! I take my healing. I take my provision. I take my wisdom. I take it all.
It’s mine in Jesus name.
