POSSESS YOUR POSSESSIONS
“But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness;and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.” Obadiah 1:17
Ownership and possession in God’s kingdom are two different things.
By virtue of our redemption, we are joint heirs with Christ.
What this simply means is that we have the very same rights and claims to the inheritance that Jesus has.
Paul expressly declared this in Romans 8:17, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;”
We are joint-heirs with the Lord Jesus, not tomorrow but today!
The truth however is that even though we are Heirs and Owners now, very few believers have possessed what they rightfully own.
God had willed the land of Canaan to the children of Israel but they still had the responsibility to go in and possess the land.
God won’t possess for you what he has willed to you.
Although the land rightfully belonged to Israel, the Canaanites still lived in the land as long as Israel didn’t possess it.
In Deuteronomy 1:8, God said to them through Moses, “Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.”
You would think that they would have taken God serious enough to do something about it.
Several years after Moses was dead, Joshua was still admonishing them to go and take what rightfully belonged to them!
“And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?”(Joshua 18:3)
Here in Africa, buying a land confers you ownership if you get the legitimate land documents. However, several empty plots are occupied by petty traders, automobile mechanics, street hooligans and even the homeless.
What this means is that while someone owns the property, another person enjoys the benefits of ownership by possessing it.
In fact the law around here states that, possession is nine-tenths of the law. In essence, ownership is easier to maintain if one has possession of something, or difficult to enforce if one does not.
As such Possession is a big deal. It’s the real deal actually. It’s time for believers to possess what is rightfully theirs.
Possession starts with you knowing what belongs to you and laying claim to it with your words.
Precious Father, with Your word, I recognise what belongs to me, and by Your power, I possess what is rightfully mine. I declare that I will no longer be ignorant of the provisions You have made available for me, rather, I choose to go in and lay claims to what is rightfully mine to use it henceforth, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
