PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHING!
“Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.” Genesis 45:5
Dear friend, perspective is everything! I mean everything!
Joseph made the statement recorded above at a point in his life when he was meeting his brothers again after several years of slavery and hardship in Egypt. This was some twenty-two (22) years later.
Remember that out of hatred and anger, his brothers had sold him to a band of Ishmaelites as a slave who in turn sold him to Egypt.
In Egypt, Joseph’s life can only be described by a sinusoidal curve. Ups today, downs tomorrow. But one thing remained constant; Joseph’s attitude. He seemed to always have a posture of certainty and assurance in the faithfulness of God, such that with the several unfortunate events of his life, there’s not one record of a sad, worried Joseph!
I believe that his greatest strength was Perspective. He always viewed everything in the lens of the dreams God gave him as a young boy. And whilst life seemed unfavorable, He trusted God to make things right.
Very remarkable was what Joseph said to his brothers on introducing himself to them. Now he has become Prime Minister in Egypt. They obviously didn’t recognize their little brother Joseph again.
Unlike what many in Joseph’s position will say or think, he didn’t see this as an opportunity to prove to them that they were wicked people and God has preserved and promoted Him to prove them wrong. Neither did he think of using his new found position to get even with his brothers.
Rather Joseph traced the hand of God in all the events of his life. And his conclusion was that “they sold him, but God sent him!”
This perspective eliminates every anger and animosity, freeing him to walk in love towards them.
Much more, it enabled him to see clearly, what God was doing through everything, and align himself with the plans of the Father.
It’s key to rid yourself of the flesh and emotions. Stop always thinking of yourself, how you feel, what was said or done to you, how you were treated… that’s all self-glorification, no matter how justified your arguments are.
Question is, where is God’s hand pointing in all of it? What is God doing and working out behind the scenes in all that’s going on?
The only way to discern the hand of the Father is to give Him praise for His unfailing love and purposes even when you don’t see it. If you will commit yourself to do this, God will reveal Himself to you and you will come out with the right perspective. Ultimately like Joseph, who was sold as a slave by his brothers, you can say;
“And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God”
I declare that I have the right perspective in life. I refuse to allow the root of animosity, greed, jealousy, strife and wickedness find expression through me, even as I go through challenges and seasons in my life. I see with the eyes of the Spirit. I take on Gods’ perspective concerning any situation as I walk in love today and always, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
