LOOK BEYOND THE LOOKS
“For God, who said, “Let brilliant light shine out of darkness,” is the one who has cascaded his light into us—the brilliant dawning light of the glorious knowledge of God as we gaze into the face of Jesus Christ. We are like common clay jars that carry this glorious treasure within, so that the extraordinary overflow of power will be seen as God’s, not ours.” 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 TPT
At the beginning of creation, Gods first creative act was to command light to shine forth out of the darkness. Paul speaking of this event in his second epistle to the Corinthians draws a parallel between what happened in Genesis 1 and what God did in our hearts at salvation.
I love the way the King James Version renders it. I believe its the closest the original though Paul was trying to share. It says,
“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
At creation, God called light to shine forth on the earth; At salvation, God Himself shone forth in our hearts.
Without light there could have been no creation. Imagine all the glory and the beauty of the world as we know it today? All of this is the product of Light.
How much more, when the God who commanded this light to shine now decides to be the light shining in your heart?
I am thoroughly convinced that the christian is in no way an ordinary being. He cannot! The problem many times is that we judge ourselves by what we look like and what we are going through. You imagine this, that within you is the Crestor of the universe shinning forth in all His splendour and glory!
No wonder Paul said in Verse 7, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
Note the first word, ‘but’. But is a conjunction used to introduce a phrase or clause contrasting with what has already been mentioned.
That is, in contrast to the exceeding great light shining in our hearts, it’s contained in a body of clay, earthen vessels!
One would expect that such great treasure will be properly presented in coverings and wrappings befitting its value but not so with God.
God does this so that the excellency, the extraordinary flow of power that follows that light may be clearly attributed to the God within not us. He never wants you to look at yourself either as the means of such manifestation or the hinderance to it. Look away from yourself and look within!
Look away from the looks and you’d begin to see great power demonstrated.
