INSTRUCTIONS ARE YOUR LIFE
“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.” Proverbs 4:13
I remember many years ago listening to a precious woman of God teach on the subject of Faith. She and her husband had been followers of the ministry of a more senior minister.
In her account, she told of how herself and her husband did everything possible just to get into any of the meetings of this Man of God. While they were already ministers themselves, they prioritized attending his meetings even on days the weather was unfavorable.
One day, this woman of God wondered why she and her husband became so wildly successful in the ministry but not many others who attended faired so well.
Like a flash she said she knew the answer. It was one word ‘INSTRUCTIONS’.
You see, I have discovered that the difference between two individuals hearing the same message is in their abilities to receive instructions and to promptly obey them.
Note what Solomon says in our text. Take fast hold of instruction and let her not go. The idea obviously is that instructions are slippery and if you don’t hold them firmly, they slip.
‘What you must I do?’ Is the key to change. When Peter preached that first message on the day of Pentecost, the multitudes asked ‘what must we do to be saved?’.
Salvation, Gods intervention always follows your prompt obedience to instructions.
Please note that delayed obedience is disobedience.
Instructions drain of virtue when you delay in obeying.
Many wonder why they don’t see the miraculous. Simply put, they don’t promptly obey instructions.
The very first miracle of Jesus, the turning of water to wine, happened as the waiters obeyed His instructions.
Remember what Mary, Jesus’ mother said,
“His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”
‘What must I do?’ Is the question that initiates change.
I love the way the New Living Translation puts our text for the day,
“Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.”
Your life is no better than the instructions you’ve received and your prompt obedience to them.
Dear Father, I thank you for teaching me the importance of responding quickly to your instructions and counsel. I wholeheartedly follow and respond to the guidance from your Word and the Holy Spirit on every detail of my life, in Jesus’ Might Name, Amen.
