IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth“ John 4:23-24
One of the most profound statements ever made in scriptures is captured in this text. I remember reading this as a teenager and I just couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that this could be true. Jesus said that God seeks those who would worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
Could this be so important to God? God who is all powerful is seeking something or better out of someone!
What makes it all the more interesting is the fact that Jesus was the one who made this statement. As such we know it’s absolute truth.
In Paul’s writings he makes it abundantly clear that God has found what He was looking for. In Jesus, He has raised for Himself a people who are capable to, and will worship Him in Spirit and Truth.
“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”
You see, in the Old Testament and the Gospels, no one could worship him in Spirit and truth as well men were spiritually dead. No one could contact God by his spirit. But now as New creations in Christ, we have been awakened to the Fatherhood of God by our spirits being made alive in and to Him.
God sought for true worshippers and He found them in you and I. Obviously, He has expectations of you and I.
This is what He truly desires. This is what the Father truly wants.
And He’s given us the ability to do this by reason of the indwelling Christ.
To worship in spirit means to offer sacrifices from your spirit not of the flesh as they did in the Old Testament. They brought bulls and goats, we bring words in prayers and worship as we minister to the Lord.
Ultimately our lives have become the sacrifice that he desires.
To worship in truth means to worship Him according to revelation not tradition. He wants your heart to respond to the revelation of Jesus and His Word. That response is your true worship.
This is what the Father truly seeks. All through the ages, He’s been watching out for you and I; the ones who can truly bring Him joy as we worship Him in Spirit and Truth.
I am a New creation, I have been awakened to the Fatherhood of God, I am the circumcision that worships God in the spirit and in truth, so therefore I yield my everyday existence as a living sacrifice unto God. Thank You Dear Holy Spirit, In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
