HOW GOD SANCTIFIES
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17
Sanctification is not a bad word. And it’s still a divine demand. God’s will is our sanctification. Paul stated it expressly in his epistles. For example, in 1 Thess 4:3-5, he said;
“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:”
This is so clear! He wants our sanctification. Even though sanctification is wholistic, having direct impact on every area of our lives, in this particular instance, he’s focused on sexual purity.
Whilst the world is running amok with sexual liberties and unbridled lust, God wants us to give more attention to the matter of sanctification and presenting our bodies as vessel of honor.
Let me state unequivocally, that you can speak much in tongues and yet be overcome with lust!
Sanctification is an ongoing work of Grace in the life of the believer. However, it has no real time effect in your life save that you’ve made the conscious decision to live a sanctified life and to take advantage of the tools that God has made available to make that possible.
It is a gift of Grace worked out by the will of the believer.
Let’s consider a scripture from the Old Testament that speaks to this;
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?
by taking heed thereto according to thy word…
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
The subject in David’s heart here is Sanctification and by the inspiration of the Spirit, he declares that it’s the Word that keeps cleanses his way and keeps from sin, not human effort or resolutions. It’s the Word that sanctifies.
You must make a resolve for sanctification but it’s a resolve to use the Word not trying to use willpower.
Jesus in His great prayer to the Father declares so powerfully, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
Reading it sends the chills down my spine. Such great words!
Thank you Dear Father for your word that teaches and guides me. I live out Your will according to the scripture for therein is my life and peace. I am clean by the Word you speak to me and therefore I keep my way, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
