HE’S PREPARED A PLACE FOR US; “IN CHRIST”
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:3
Jesus starts the passion weekend by sharing some private moments with the disciples and he makes some startling statements. One of them is our text above. In preparing them for his departure, Jesus tells them that He’s going to prepare a place for them and He will come receive them so that where he is they may be also.
So many have totally missed the point of Jesus’ teaching here. Rightly so, because they misunderstand what He said in the previous verse when He said “In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
I’ve heard many teach that God is building them mansions, duplexes, or skyscrapers dependent on their works on earth here. This is just so erroneous as there’s not one other verse in the entire scriptures that remotely supports this idea. It clearly fails the basic test for establishing doctrine- having two or three witnesses that share the concept.
Note what He says in our text, He was coming to receive us to where he already was. In essence, He already lived there. In verse ten, He described that place, “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?”
It was a place of union with the Father, a place of absolute oneness with the Father. He described it as being in the Father and the Father in him.
The place Jesus referred to wasn’t a physical location. He wasn’t speaking of heaven either. It was a spiritual location.
Every man who puts his faith in Jesus will be brought to this place. Jesus is the way that leads there. Now we can claim that “I am in the Father and the Father is in me too.”
Paul called this place ‘In Christ’. He uses that term about a hundred times. It was the crux of his teachings.
In fact, he always distinguished between the physical location of the brethren from where they truly were.
Let’s see some examples;
“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithfulin Christ Jesus:”
“To the saints and faithful brethrenin Christ which are at Colosse:”
“Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:”
They lived at Ephesus or Colosse but In Christ!
We live in Christ not at Ghana. Our lives are governed by the realities and the economy of the place called ‘In Christ’.
Dear Heavenly Father, i thank you for my spiritual location which is in Christ. Christ is my life, and having received Jesus Christ as my Lord, I live in oneness and in constant fellowship with God. I walk, conscious of my oneness with the owner of the universe; therefore, the whole world is mine. Blessed be God! Halleluyah!!
