FULFILLING YOUR PRIESTHOOD
“Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.”Exodus 19:5-6
God’s desire from the beginning has been to fellowship with mankind. He’s always desired a people separated unto Himself as His peculiar treasure. This was His place for Israel. Through Abraham, Israel became His choice nation. There was however one snag.
Man was spiritually dead in sin and so couldn’t relate directly with God. So God instituted the law and the priesthood as a means to relate with mankind.
The priests were to offer up gifts and sacrifices for the sins of the people which was spelt out in the law.
If they could keep up with the regulations and demands of the law they would be a holy nation and a kingdom of priests to God.
Unfortunately they didn’t and couldn’t. They failed woefully at this. Gods desire was unfulfilled. While he had Levi as his priests, He really wanted all of Israel.
The Apostle Peter later declares however that in us, the church, God has found himself the holy nation, the kingdom of priests he has been looking for.
“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 2:5
You and I today have become the manifestation of Gods dreams: a kingdom of priests.
The priest has a definite task: to offer up spiritual sacrifices. These are sacrifices of praise, worship, prayers, meditation and intercession.
In fact, God spells it out clearly to Moses. He said,
“At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day. Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him.”
Simply put, the priest had the following tasks:
– He was to bear the ark of the covenant which represents the presence of God. The priests were carriers and dispensers of the presence of God
– He was to stand and minster to the lord. The priests had the task of ministering always to the Lord. In essence, the Lord was their assignment.
– He was to bless in the Lords name. The priest always had something to give of that which he had received from the Lord, he blessed others.
Are you fulfilling your priestly ministry?
Precious Father, i Thank you for making me a Holy Nation, a Royal Priesthood, a people chosen by God to represent the Kingdom of God on earth. Thank you Father for calling me with a Holy calling. As i stand as a minister unto the Lord, ministering and offering the sacrifice of praise from the calves of my lips in worship, prayers, meditation and intercession, I become the manifestation of God’s dreams, thereby fulfilling my priestly ministry, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
