EVIL COMMUNICATION CORRUPTS GOOD MANNERS
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” 1 Corinthians 15:33
I wish the world knew how powerful words are. No man ever recovers from the words that he hears. It takes diligent and unceasing work to rise above the type/quality of words you hear.
In fact, so we may know how important this is, God Almighty made preaching the only means whereby man can be saved. In essence, all that Jesus did in the cross, the great sacrifice of God for man is only as effective as it is proclaimed with words!
As this works in the positive so also it works in the negative.
There are many who think, well ‘I’m not acting on these words nor is it affecting me. I just need to be informed… bla, bla, bla’
They apparently lack understanding of the scriptures for Paul teaches, that no matter how strong you think you are, everything is at the mercy of what you hear.
Communication as used in our text obviously speaks more to companionship, association but the active factor in such associations still remains the words and thoughts that are exchanged.
I remember reluctantly meeting up with a senior minister of the Gospel who had asked to see me. In fact, I avoided the first meeting. Now, this was simply because someone had told me a few things about him that I didn’t think were too great. On meeting him, he was the exact opposite of what I was told!
How many times have we made conclusions about people without meeting them simply because someone said something to you.
Many have stopped honoring those God established over them because of this.
Many have disconnected from covenant relationships because of this.
Many have slandered the character of others because of this.
You see, the easier job is to guard what comes to you and what you feed on.
Once the seed is sown it’s very difficult dealing with it.
Remember it’s easier to uproot a proper plant than to deal with weed.
Don’t allow your mind become a garbage can where all sort of unsavory information is lodged. You are harming your spirit. Such a man can never develop great capacity for faith and love.
I don’t read everything. I rarely visit social media. I control the conversations around me. Once you start speaking ill of anyone, I judge the spirit and a good many times will shut the conversation down.
I only what to know what God thinks of the person or the situation.
What you think doesn’t really help me. Usually, you’re just recruiting me to your school of thought.
No man is greater than what is hearing. Stop overestimating yourself.
Take heed what ye hear!
Dear Father, I thank you for your word which guides me continually. I’m guided by your Spirit to walk in wisdom and understanding, filled with the thoughts of righteousness. I’m guided and regulated by the Word of God, giving no place to evil communication and wrong communication, today and always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
