ENGAGE YOUR ANGELS
“And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?” Mattew 26:51-53
While upbraiding Peter for his ignorant zeal and unnecessary violence, Jesus made a profound statement that gives us an insight into the ministry of Angels.
That night Judas has betrayed the Lord and soldiers had come to arrest him.
Peter thought to do what he could to protect his master so he drew a sword and chopped off the ear of the High Priest’s servant. Although Matthew doesn’t mention who did this, the other Synoptics tell us it was Peter.
What’s most striking was the calm demeanor of the Lord Jesus through this all. Think of you having a discussion with a few friends and then suddenly you’re surrounded by hundreds of the best force men in your country! That doesn’t even give a good idea of what the scenario was like! Yet Jesus was so calm through it all.
In response to Peter, Jesus says that he didn’t need human help or intervention. All He needed to do was to pray to his Father who will in turn send him at least twelve legions of angels.
Now a Roman legion at the time of Jesus was 6,000 men. These weren’t the average soldiers. They were the best-trained men in town.
So Jesus was saying in essence that He had at least 72,000 angels at His beck and call that night.
Now let’s think through this. What is the strength of one angel? What can an angel accomplish? Truth is we may not be able to say exactly but let’s benchmark an example in the scriptures.
“Then the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!” Isaiah 37:36 (NIV)
One angel killed 185,000 of the Assyrians in one night.
Remember these are the lowest estimates. Jesus had at least 72,000 angels available to Him.
What then would have been the combined strength of twelve legions?
Simple calculation shows that the strength at Jesus’ disposal could have easily annihilated at least 13,320,000,000 men (that is, thirteen billion, three hundred twenty million men) — which is about twice the current world population. Jesus certainly didn’t need Peters help. With a simple prayer, He could have annihilated the whole human race.
Please know this that Jesus didn’t have this because He’s special. No! He had it because He’s a Son. He said I will prayer to ‘My Father’.
You’re a son today too and guess what? You have the very same access and claim that Jesus has.
We don’t pray to angels nor order them around. We pray to the Father and make declarations of Faith.
Stop living in fear and desperation. God’s angels are at your beck and call.
I am in Mount Zion, the city of the Living God; whose child I am, I have come to an innumerable company of angels, all ministering spirits, sent to minister for me because I am an heir of salvation. I am conscious of the company with me, I am unflustered always because they that are with me are more than they that be with them! Amen.
