“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:11-13
What distinguishes Christianity from every other religion is the Son. Every religion has a concept or an idea of god. The fact is that there can be no religion if there was no conception of a god. So in the same way we have our God, they claim to have their own gods.
But none ever claimed to have the Son. This the crux of our Christian faith. We have the Son, Jesus Christ.
The Son came to do much more than forgive our sins. If He forgave our sins alone, we would have been forgiven servants.
He came to do much more than heal our bodies else we would simply have been healed servants.
The Son came to bring many sons into the family. Paul puts it this way, “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.” (Hebrew 2:10)
The mark of sonship is that we now have the very same life of the Father.
As the Son has life in Him, even so has He given to us to have His life in us.
Jesus came to bring many sons into glory and the way He did that was by gifting us the life of God at salvation.
This life isn’t the normal human life that we know. It is called Zoe. It refers to the character and quality of life that God possesses. It refers to the very essence of divinity.
The Apostle John writing in our text for the day makes it clear that he that has the Son has this life. When we said yes to His lordship, we received His life into us.
However observe that he says he’s written to them that they may know that they have eternal life. This knowledge is he’s referring to here is a consciousness. It’s referring to more than just a conceptual appreciation of a truth. It’s talking about a living, breathing, walking consciousness of this truth.
It’s talking about contemplating the reality of this life so much that it fills your consciousness every passing moment. We have the very life of God in us today.
Where then is the failure? How can we be sick? How can we be confused? Impossible!
We’re filled with the life of God!
I have the life of God in me, and I am conscious of this life everyday. I function as an overcomer and i’m more than a conqueror. I live the triumphant life every day, manifesting the power of the God-life I carry in me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
