IT’S TIME TO TURN ASIDE

IT’S TIME TO TURN ASIDE

Ayo Ajani
“Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.”  Exodus 3:1-4

This text is one of the most amusing in the old testament. I know I referenced it in yesterday’s devotional but I wanted to point out something very important to you in this story.
Moses is here leading the flock of his father-in-law at the backsides of the desert. He was on the run from Egypt as his first attempt at fulfilling the plan of God for his life was an abysmal failure.

Over the years reading this text casually, I always imagined that it was the same day that Moses saw the bush burning with fire but not being consumed that God spoke to him. But if you look closer, that’s not the case.
Moses noticed it but continued with his business. The scripture says in verse two that the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of the bush but he didn’t see the angel. He gave it no attention.

He must have passed by the bush several days and at some point, his curiosity got piqued enough to make him want to find out what was happening with the bush.
Verse four is a sobering one.
And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.”

God had visited Moses but Moses was about to miss that visitation. He was too busy with the legitimate pursuits of his life.  Until Moses turned aside God didn’t call out. I’ve always wondered, what if Moses didn’t turn aside? Would he have missed the great opportunity God was giving him to lead Israel out of Egypt? Would he have delayed God’s plan for himself and much more prolonged the captivity of God’s people? These are sobering thoughts!

Until we turn aside we won’t hear the lord. The Lord is nigh thee. He’s visiting you today. Have you turned aside?
Could you leave all you are doing right now and even this day, clear your schedules and Turn Aside!

CONFESSION
Thank you Father Lord for your word that has come fresh to me today. I turn aside from every distraction and focus on your word. I turn aside from all frivolities and give attention to that which is important. As I turn aside, Lord, I receive instructions and all you have in store for me today and always. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
