BEING SPIRITUALLY MINDED
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6
Everyone wants life and peace. No one wants troubles or adversity. Man has been seeking for that one thing that eliminates all his sorrows. The desire for utopia is in the heart of every man. But the scriptures gives a way out.
Paul states clearly how to live a life filled with life and peace in contrast to pain, confusion and death.
Simply put, he says the answer is to be ‘Spiritually Minded’
Please note that he didn’t say ‘to be carnal is death and to be spiritual is life and peace.’
That’s obviously how many people read it. But it’s wrong. He speaks of being carnally minded and being spiritually minded. In essence, the mind is the battle ground.
He wrote this epistle to believers, as such you have believers who are carnally minded and those who are spiritually minded.
To be a believer doesn’t immediately mean you’re spiritually minded.
Some equate a show of spirituality with being spiritually minded. How untrue! You may have a show of spirituality and be the most carnally minded believer ever.
To be carnally minded means to have a mind that’s ruled by the information system of this world and the emotions it triggers.
Such a mind is ruled by the news, gossip, doctors report and is given to fear, lust, envy and every negative emotion imaginable.
A spiritually minded believer is governed by the Word of God and the dictates of the Spirit. The Word of God forms his frame of reference for any and everything. His first response to anything is ‘what does the Word say about this?’
A mind ruled by the Word is the secret to life and peace.
Where the mind goes, the man goes. You are no better than the character and the quality of your thoughts.
Being spiritually minded does not happen overnight. The believer has the responsibility of renewing his mind with the Word and keeping it subject to the Word.
Paul admonished in Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Renewing the mind is the first step to being Spiritually minded. It’s an intentional journey you have to embark on.
It’s time to be spiritually minded.
Dear Father, thank You for awakening in me the consciousness of my spirituality through the Word. My attention is set on things above, and not earthly things. I train my mind to be spiritually minded by focusing and renewing my mind with the word of God. I walk in victory, power and the dominion of the Spirit, because I’m spiritually minded, with my total attention on the true light of the Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
