“Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.” Proverb 6:10-11
One key reason many believers and gifted people never hit the radar isn’t because of satan but sheer laziness.
If laziness were a demon it must be an arch-demon!
God has designed our world to function by laws and principles. It’s not an irrational world. One of the laws that governs the outcomes of a mans life is diligence.
God is a diligent God. He expects and demands diligence from us. You see, diligence is more than hard work. It’s an expression of the excellent nature that God has given to us.
Diligence is an expression of excellence. Now there’s a hard work that’s based on fear of want and lack but the diligence that God demands of us as believers is a fruit of the excellent spirit he’s placed within us.
There’s profit in all labour. In fact, poverty and slothfulness are bosom friends.
Solomon the richest man of his time and one of the richest of all times consistently makes a direct connection between poverty and lack.
Reading today’s scripture in more recent translations drives home the point.
“If you keep nodding off and thinking, “I’ll do it later,” or say to yourself, “I’ll just sit back awhile and take it easy,” just watch how the future unfolds!
By making excuses you’ll learn what it means to go without. Poverty will pounce on you like a bandit and move in as your roommate for life.”
“Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down and sleep– So will your poverty come like a robber or one who travels [with slowly but surely approaching steps] and your want like an armed man [making you helpless]. ”
In Proverbs 10:4 Solomon says “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.”
Stop blaming everyone for your woes. Stop even blaming Satan.
Get busy. Get diligent.
Stop the procrastination.
Stop sleeping like a purposeless human.
Your life is a project. Get busy at building it. Resolve to give your best to all that your hand finds to do.
Poverty loves procrastination. It moves slowly but surely attacking you like an armed bandit when least expected.
Get busy today!
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the spirit of Excellence given to me.
So I declare today that I am diligent in all my endeavors and by the influence of God’s spirit, I take responsibility for my life and give the best to all that my hands finds to do.
