ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
“And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.”Luke 17:15-19
Thanksgiving is a state of the heart where one is pleased with God and His dealings in his/her life.
It’s a response to the undeserved goodness of God in ones life. As believers, it’s our responsibility to call to remembrance all of God’s dealings in our lives, thank Him and give Him the glory for all that He has done.
Just like the Psalmist said in Psalm 103:1,2
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits.”
As seen in our primary text, after Jesus had healed the ten lepers, only one came back and fell at his feet to thank and worship Jesus. Jesus seeing him asked for the other nine that where also healed but they never came back to say thank you.
It’s quite significant that Jesus asked for the others, could it mean he expected them to come back in gratitude? Yes, He did and He still expects the same of us today.
Thanksgiving is so significant that our Heavenly Father is watching out for it.
The man who is unthankful would always have pride and entitlement in his heart and one thing we know for sure is that God Himself resists the proud man. Forgetfulness and unthankfulness darkens the heart of a man, it corrupts that which a man has received from God.
We must always maintain an attitude of gratitude to God for all the significant and seemingly insignificant things He has done for us.
Three things that must be present in our gratitude to the Lord.
Use your words to express gratitude. Be intentional with your words to thank God.
Use your actions to express gratitude. Do a dance, make a joyful noise, spin around. Be physically excited about all that God has done for you.
Use your substance to express gratitude. Giving your substance is always a good way to show your gratitude to God.
Thank you Father Lord for the opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for all that you have done for me and through me. With the calves of my lips and from the depth of my heart, i say thank you for being my protection, for being my ever present help in times of need, for being a strong tower, for being my reason for living. Hallelujah! Amen.
