ARE YOU SABOTAGING THE GRACE OF GOD?
“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;”
Can a man fail of the grace of God? Is it possible to fall short of God’s grace? What exactly does it mean to fail of the grace of God?
The Greek word ‘hustereo’ is what was translated fail. It means to fall short, to be deficient, to come behind. The idea is that God has made so much enablement available but the individual never lives up to what is available to him.
Have you met people who seem to have great potential but never live up to it? They may even be in great churches under great leadership but they simply never achieve greatness.
Paul connects this with an unresolved root of bitterness in them. Note that he says that to see it, you have to look diligently. It’s so subtle that you have to take extra care to notice it.
Roots are usually embedded below the ground surface and are unseen. To see it, you have to dig up the earth.
Bitterness is so subtle yet it keeps growing spreading its tentacles within the soul till it consumes the whole inner man. Unfortunately, it defiles the one held captive thereby and everyone in their circle.
This happens when people aren’t intentional in dealing with their hurts and grievances. They allow it fester till it becomes a mental stronghold. It affects their view and perception of everything. They never see anything good in the person. Such people are quick to be critical, slow to trust, hate commitment and resent authority.
Pitiably their view is so twisted that they justify their position with logical reasons.
Unfortunately this bitterness troubles. It torments with anger, rage, envy, and jealousy at the offender.
It troubles the offended till he spreads his venom to the family, the church, and even the nation, defiling it till the grace of God is stopped, rendered ineffective.
Nations have gone to war, destroying millions of lives because of the root of bitterness in just one person.
Churches have been ripped apart by it.
Families have killed themselves because of bitterness.
So subtle but so powerful and destructive! Look within today, dear friend. Do you feel irritated at the thought of a person? Are you angry with the ‘church’ possibly because of how you were treated? Do you find it easy to speak ugly of another?
It’s time to let it go. Turn to the Lord today and repent of it. It’s a fleshy manifestation. Get alone with the Lord and ask for His help with it. The Holy Spirit can extend His hand into your soul and rip it out completely.
Don’t sabotage the grace of God because of how you were treated. The cost of bitterness is too great to pay. Let it go!
I choose to walk in grace always therefore I put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, evil speaking and malice away from me. Satan has nothing in me for I am God’s love child, showing kindness, tenderheartedness and forgiveness to all those around me in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
