A PRIEST UPON HIS THRONE
“Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” Zechariah 6:13
This verse is one of the most amazing scriptures in the Old Testament.
Actually for the Jew who lived in the prophet’s day this verse actually was an irony.
You see there were three main offices in Israel in those days. They had the office of the king, the priest and the prophet.
The King was the political and administrative ruler of the nation but the prophet was the spiritual ruler. However the priest was God’s minister who served in the secret in the temple.
Of the three offices, he was the most unseen and as expected the most uncelebrated.
However in Gods kingdom structure, the priest was the most important. For the mere reason that the priestly ministry was what determined if the nation of Israel enjoyed continued existence or it was destroyed.
Save that He offered sacrifices the nation of Israel was at the risk of judgement for their sins.
The Priest offered gifts and sacrifices to God on behalf of the people.
His ministry procured mercy for the nation and averted evil.
However in Zechariah’s prophetic drama, he describes a day when there will be a merging of both ministries. That is the royal ministries of the prophet-king and the spiritual ministry of the priest.
However priority was given to the priestly ministry. Please note the communication of the prophet. He describes that he will be a priest upon his throne. To the Jew that was the very impossible. At no time was a priest meant to be in the palace not to talk of having a throne.
The previous verses shows how that the Prophet was to wear a crown on the head of the High Priest.
And all this was prophetic of the coming Christ. He brought in a new dispensation.
In this dispensation the priest is the one who is crowned a king. The priest is the one who is given a throne and has a seat on the throne.
In essence, no man enjoys the royalty and authority that comes with the priestly ministry save that He’s given himself to the priestly ministry.
Too many believers want to see great demonstrations of power and authority in their lives without committing to the ministry of a priest.
Too many love the public accolades that comes with the public ministry of royalty but aren’t willing to pay the price of the secret ministry of a priest.
Never forget, priestly prayers precedes royal power.
Dear Father, I thank you for separating me and calling me into the ministry of the priesthood. Thank you for this Holy calling; as i separate myself and commit myself to the ministry of a priest, i experience and give vent to the plans and purposes of God on this earth, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
